Sera Waters is now showing in ‘Stitching Yarns’ at Art Pod!
‘Stitching Yarns’, curated by Ursula Halpin, is a part of the Helpmann Emerging Curator Program, delivered in partnership with the City of Adelaide.
“Needlework, weaving, and crochet have often been portrayed by an overriding culture as a meek and dutiful activity. Historically, craft objects were used for useful domestic purposes.” ‘Stitching Yarns’, a suite of three exhibitions displayed across three venues, surveys “women in contemporary South Australian culture who use stitching, weaving, and textiles to create alternate and additional forms of communication.”
The program includes the exhibition of works by selected artists, as well as a series of free shared-making weekend activities, designed for small groups of women from diverse cultures and communities to come together to share their making and the stories behind their work over tea and a plate. Works created during these sessions by the participants may be added to the exhibition.
Exhibition runs until January 19, 2019.
